BELLINI (Bellini) Vincenzo (3 XI 1801, Catania, Sicily - 23 IX 1835, Puteau, near Paris) - Italian composer. He came from a family of musicians (father - conductor, grandfather - organist and composer). In 1819-25 (or 1827) he studied at the Neapolitan Conservatory "San Sebastiano" with D. Furno (harmony), J. Tritto (counterpoint), C. Conti (chembalo), N. Zingarelli (composition). He made his debut with the opera Adelson and Salvini (1825, Conservatory Theater San Sebastiano, Naples). The opera Bianca and Fernando (1826, San Carlo Theater, Naples) brought him fame. After moving to Milan, B. became close to the poet F. Romani, who became his constant librettist. Great success was accompanied by the production of the opera Somnambula (1831).
