BEKER (Becker) Hugo (13 II 1864, Strasbourg - 30 VII 1941, Heiselgasteig, near Munich) - German. cellist and teacher. He studied under his father, violinist J. Becker, then under F. Grützmacher, A. Piatti and J. Desvert. Conc. activity began in 1880, performed with the orchestra of the Mannheim nat. theater. In 1884-1886 soloist of the opera orchestra in Frankfurt; in the years 1890-96 Quartet X. Herman (the so-called Frankfurt Quartet). Since 1901 he has been a soloist at the Mondays concerts in London.
