BACH Johann Christian (5 IX 1735, Leipzig - 1 I 1782, London) is a German composer and pianist. The youngest son of I. S. Bach (“Milan” or “London” B. ). He studied with his father, then with his brother K. F. E. Bach. In 1754 (or 1756) he entered the service of Count Litta in Milan, which gave him the opportunity to study counterpoint with J. Martini in Bologna. Then B. created most of his spiritual productions. In particular, the Magnificat C-dur and Those Deum. In 1760 he converted to the Catholic faith and became an organist in the Cathedral of Milan. In Italy, B. wrote operas: Artaxerxes (1761, Turin), Cato in Utica (1761, Naples), Alexander in India (1762, ibid. ). In 1762 he moved to London, where he made his debut with the opera Orion (1763).
