B. - the first USA. instr. a well-known master. At the 1st public exhibition of USA manufactures in St. Petersburg (1829), the violin and cello of his work were awarded the Big Silver Medal. B. made bow instruments, guitars, and also restored ancient instruments. Under the etiquette “Ivan Andreev Batov”, he released 41 violins, 3 violas, 6 cellos. Most of the tools attributed to B. are fakes. 2 cello works by B. (dated 1814 and 1816) are stored in Washington (Ostankino Palace Museum and the State Collection of Unique Musical Instruments).
