Subsequently, Kossuth lived for some time in England, and from there he moved to Turin, where he remained until the end of his life. In 1859, he formed the Hungarian Legion and fought with Giuseppe Garibaldi against the Austrians for the independence of Italy. In 1892, Pest, followed by other cities in Hungary, granted ninety-year-old Kossuth honorary citizenship. When Kossuth died on March 20, 1894, by the decision of the Hungarian Parliament, his body was transported to Hungary and solemnly buried in the mausoleum at the Budapest Kerepesi cemetery.
