Any intelligible descriptions of the incident are contained only in the memoirs of Beethoven's contemporaries. The most important of these sources is the recollections of the family doctor of the princely family, Anton Weiser. Dr. Weiser then lived nearby and sheltered Beethoven at night. Wiser was present at the beginning of the conflict, but did not see the denouement with his own eyes. The story was recorded with his mouth by his son, and published already by his grandson - that is, many years after these events. Since Weiser did not write his memoirs himself, the story is conducted from a third party.
