He was the virtuoso, and the audience loved him for it or, at least, respected him. It was his personality that gained importance, the pros and cons of his interpretation were discussed. In general, all this was not such an achievement, but in the end it made it possible to demonstrate to the public the masterpieces of symphonic music in a new light, and composers to write compositions, the complexity of which was recently insurmountable.
