Indeed, in 1818 Beethoven heard almost nothing. It became so difficult to speak with him that the interlocutors had to write their questions and remarks. So there were spoken notebooks that Beethoven always carried in his pocket with a pencil and which he used not only for contacts with others, but also as notebooks. For 1818, only one notebook has been preserved dating from February to March; for 1819 - four notebooks; then their number began to increase, and Beethoven kept them along with other papers of his archive.
