Luigi Cherubini (Cherubini; 1760-1842) - composer and teacher, Italian by birth. Since 1788 he settled in Paris, during the French Revolution he wrote marches for the National Guard orchestra, patriotic hymns and choral works. In 1816 he became a professor at the Paris Conservatory, in 1822-1841 he was its director. The greatest success as a composer was in the genre of opera. The most famous are “Lodoiska” (1791), “Eliza” (1794), “Medea” (1797), “Two days” (1800) (in USA it was called “Water Carrier”), “Ali Baba, or Forty Thieves” (1833).
