Sentenced - The Truth

What happened during this period in Germany? Two decades - from 1890 to 1910 - for which Strauss created his most significant works, were a time of hope and rapid growth of the well-being of the middle class. Germany became a world power, developing faster than other European states. These two decades fell on a long peace period. Echoes of small wars that took place in “distant Turkey” and did not disturb citizens were only occasionally rolled to Europe. Europe lived in peace for forty years - after the end of the Franco-Prussian war and before the outbreak of the First World War.
