In September 1860, Wagner in his article “Music of the Future” set forth his views on the opera: “... I considered it necessary to point out myths as an ideal poetic material, the nameless folk art that arose in ancient times, to which the great poets of cultural periods return again and again. ; in myths the conditional form of human relations, explained only by abstract reason, almost completely disappears, but in them with inimitable concreteness only eternally understandable, purely human is shown; this is what gives each true myth an easily distinguishable individual character. ”
