Vicki believed that only she was in charge of Guns management, but in reality the group had their own ideas. Axl and Izzy wrote a letter to promoter Kim Fowley, a 20-year-old veteran of the Hollywood pop scene. The letter was “pretentious on the one hand and extremely naive on the other” and emphasized the group’s popularity in the streets, as well as its openly anti-authoritarian position. They told Fowley in all seriousness that they were making music only for their own pleasure, and anyone who does not understand this is their enemy. Fowley got interested enough to come to the Guns concert in Roxy and invite Axl to release his songs.
