Scorpions - No Pain No Gain

The “City of Schiller and Goethe” again turned into the “City of Liszt” for several days. The guests of the festival were Pauline Viardo Garcia and Camille Saint-Saens, a meeting with which brought List a lot of joy. On May 23, the festival opened with the performance of “Legends of St. Elizabeth,” conducted by Eduard Lassen. The concert was attended by the Grand Duke Karl Alexander, who invited Liszt to an evening audience. On May 25, Liszt himself controlled the orchestra, which played Hans von Bülow's symphonic poem Nirvana and a fragment of the unfinished oratorio Legend of St. Stanislav. That day in Weimar, Liszt stood at the conductor’s desk for the last time.
