Observers with varying degrees of irony noted that during the show, musicians maniacally rush about the stage, ramps and platforms, jumping over stage monitors and sometimes over each other. A Times critic wrote that on the first night the crowd looked unusually quiet, which made Axl angry, and there is no denying it. Now, the (relatively) expensive Guns stadium concerts were attended by old rock fans, rather than the wild young metallers of the 1980s. During the second show in New York, Axl criticized the critic (John Perils) and urged him to go on stage during the third concert to explain himself. (The Times employee denied this invitation.)
