There were persistent rumors that the Rolling Stones would come to the city for four days and perform in the huge Los Angeles Coliseum. The Stones recorded a new album, Steel Wheels, which was to revive a cult band from the dead. Guns were said to play at all four concerts, but the group continued to deny this through Geffen's press office. Geffen himself rejected Rolling Stone's insistent requests for an interview with Axl. As a result, he broke down when the magazine promised to put Axl on the cover, but stipulated that Axl's friend James will interview, and all the photos, including the cover, will be taken by the official photographer of the group Robert John.
