The catastrophe in Axl Rose's personal life was never openly discussed in Guns N 'Roses. Axl now saw his bandmates only on stage. (And none of them dared to ask Axl how he was doing.) Perhaps that is why the Skin and Bones tour turned out to be so exceptional. Slash liked playing songs with "Illusion" in the form in which he composed and recorded them for the album: as compositions of a guitar rock band, rather than glamorous orchestral numbers. So what, that the halls at some concerts, for example, in the Hartford City Center, were only half full? At least it was more honest with respect to the quality of the performances.
