Klaus Martin Kopits suggested in 2010 that the bagatelle could have been written for the tenor’s sister, Joseph August Röckel, singer Maria Eva Röckel, who sometimes performed under the pseudonym Eliza Röckel, and in 1813 became the wife of Beethoven’s friend Johann Nepomuk Gummel. She recalled in her old age that Beethoven flirted with her slightly until her marriage. But, firstly, she never mentioned anywhere any Beethoven's play dedicated to her, secondly, she did not bear the name Elizabeth neither officially nor in the family circle, and thirdly, she was not connected in any way with the Malfatti family.
