For so long we stopped at the most unsightly and painful of Wagnerian vices only to analyze it and understand clearly how impossible it is to find in Wagner’s music the traits of pettiness, touchiness, selfishness that are characteristic of Wagner-man, so there is no trace of it hate theories. Moreover, his music is deeply humanistic, sublime and pure. Wagner-composer is free from vices. But, in an effort to make the story of a universal human myth, Wagner himself in many ways became a myth. He became confused in himself: he said one thing, wrote another, thought a third, and did a fourth. And only his music is true.
