In the summer of 1872, Wagner completed the second volume of his autobiography. We already said that he began to write it at the request of Ludwig II, the meeting with which was a watershed between painful doubts, disorder, disappointments and a firm conviction of the correctness of the chosen path. The second volume of “My Life” ended with events related to Jesse Losso, perhaps the peak of “doubt, frustration and disappointment”. Wagner's work on the third volume of memoirs stretched for eight whole years: with the beginning of the “Bayreuth affair” he was simply not interested to even mentally return to the past. From now on, he lived only in the future. The “last volume” of Wagner’s autobiography will be the Bayreuth Festspielhaus.
