In the coming 1870, the entire musical world was preparing to widely celebrate the centenary of the birth of the great Beethoven. Anniversary festivals were planned in Bonn and Berlin, in Pest and Vienna. Weimar also intended to mark a glorious date. And, of course, they could not do without Liszt. Since the end of 1869, he worked hard on the cantata to the words of A. Stern and F. Gregorovius “To the celebration of the centenary of Beethoven (2nd Beethoven cantata)” - Zur Säkularfeier Beethovens (2. Beethoven-Kantate) and tried to not accept anyone, but for one visitor gladly made an exception.
