The new, 1790 year began alarmingly. Events in neighboring France unfolded rapidly. A few months after the fall of the Bastille, it became clear that the revolution is not only a series of folk festivals with songs and dances, but something much more terrible and uncontrollable. However, for the time being, the French affairs of Germany and Austria did not directly concern. King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette still retained their titles (and there was no talk of a threat to their lives). The royalist uprising in the Vendee, the Jacobin terror and the influx into Germany of refugees, including exiles of royal blood, were also ahead. However, the situation within the Holy Roman Empire itself worsened every month.
