Wagner devoted the winter of 1850/51 to writing his next major work, Opera and Drama, which was completed on February 16th. In many ways, this work is decisive in the literary and philosophical heritage of Wagner. Firstly, according to A.F. Losev, it has almost completely formulated what can be called Wagner’s true aesthetics, namely his theory of musical drama: “Since then, Wagner’s aesthetics will forever remain a musical-dramatic aesthetics.”
