Countess Erdode is one of the most mysterious figures in Beethoven’s biography. The existence of a trusting relationship between them is confirmed by the surviving letters of the composer and the dedication of the countess of the two Trios op. 70 and two cello Sonatas op. 102. The countess was a good pianist, and when she felt comfortable, she played Beethoven’s solo works or in an ensemble. But she suffered from an incurable disease that began after the first birth and led to disability: her legs gradually refused.
