In the next theatrical season, Liszt planned to stage Flying Dutchman in Weimar. Liszt could not go to the April performance of the Wagnerian opera in Zurich, but told a friend in a letter: “... the news I received about the performance of The Flying Dutchman is favorable. Next winter, you will also receive news from Weimar about our production, since we can no longer delay it, and I hope that the performers will show themselves well (for the work itself is beyond any criticism) ...
