It seemed to me that the contrast inherent in the two parts of this poem contributes to the expression of contrast in music. How nice it would be for me to find out if I properly combined my harmony with yours! I would also accept your critical instructions, which cannot but be true, with exceptional readiness, for I set the truth above everything and never share my view as if Veritas odium parit (“Truth gives rise to hatred” - Terence). What importance would be for me any of your remarks either about the composition in general, or about composing music for your poems!
