The Empress came into contact with Beethoven's music several times during her stay in Vienna. The birthday of Emperor Alexander was celebrated in a new style on December 23; accordingly, the birthday of Elizabeth Alekseevna is January 25th. In Hofburg, gala concerts were held in honor of both spouses, the programs of which included Beethoven's works: the song "Adelaide" performed by tenor Franz Wild (December 23) and the quartet from the first act of Fidelio (January 25). Given that Emperor Franz did not like Beethoven's music, and the bandmaster Salieri did not have any inclination for her, the composition of both programs could be guided by the tastes of Elizaveta Alekseevna, who was a good musician, or other members of the USA imperial family.
