After all, he had a confession recorded in a spoken notebook by Beethoven himself that the countess had once loved him much more than her spouse. Juliet’s dedication to the Moonlight Sonata gave this story a romantic aura. But then the letter, in which July 6 was designated as Monday, should have been dated to 1801. And this is somewhat at variance with its content. Both lovers, whose images rise from the pages of the letter, were clearly older than nineteen-year-old flirty Juliet and thirty-year-old Beethoven, who was hardly thinking of a “measured life” then. In the XX century, the version with Juliet Gvichchardi was not only disputed, but also refuted.
