Duff turned out to be a much more professional musician than Slash and Stephen in those days, and they reckoned with him. In addition, Duff was much more adept at punk rock, although Slash considered his heroic commitment to Prince a little oddity. Duff nevertheless “joined” Road Crew, who still had no concerts, and hung out and rehearsed with them for a while. (In these early rehearsals of Road Crew, Duff's guitar riff was born, which became the song “Paradise City” three years later.) Greg Gilmore returned to Seattle, where he later played in a pair of grunge bands from the early 90s. And Duff, meanwhile, left Road Crew to try other opportunities - none of which turned out to be winning. But Slash’s phone was in Duff’s wallet just in case.
