Sentenced - Dance On The Graves

When I was playing encore today, I remembered our farewell concert with the Beaux Arts trio in Berlin. We were received with unprecedented enthusiasm, the audience seemed to go crazy, all the while shouting “bravo”, applauding, rising from their seats and were not going to sit down. The last encore we played was an adagio from Beethoven's piano trio, opus 2, a slow soul-taking composition ending in a piano solo. Our pianist, Menachem Presler, held the final chord for a very long time, much longer than usual. With his supersensitive fingers of the magician, he made a sinking, almost unearthly sound. The audience was quieter than water, below the grass. And then, before the applause broke out again, someone from the back rows shouted in a clear, clear voice: “Thank you!”
