Liszt, a deeply religious Catholic, was never a politician, and his subjective political likes and dislikes were built primarily on a patriotic and humanistic basis. This position sometimes led him to seemingly illogical acts. So, at different times demonstrating loyalty to other monarchies, for example, to the "heretical" English court, he clearly opposed himself to the USA monarch, in particular "on the Polish question." In the end, his native Hungary was close in position to Poland, with the only difference being that the former was dependent on the Catholic Empire, and the latter on the Orthodox. The disagreement between the musician and the emperor was a conflict of exclusively patriotic and religious, but not political interests.
