There is a very strange book called Beethoven's Immortal Beloved: According to M. T's Personal Memoirs, published in 1890 by the Austrian-German writer Mariam Tenger (Maria von Khrusotsky, 1821–1898). In her youth, Tenger started a trusting relationship with the elderly Teresa Brunswick (who died in 1861). And supposedly Teresa admitted to her admirer that she was Beethoven's Immortal lover and that he secretly became engaged to her in the summer of 1806 in the resort town of Füred on Lake Balaton, with Franz Brunswick being the only witness. A few years later, the lovers were forced to break the engagement: Teresa assured that her mother would never have reconciled with such a misalliance, and Beethoven was impatient and did not want to listen to objections.
