For orchestra students, as already mentioned, it does not matter what setting is set. They will tune their instruments according to the specified tuning fork - and will be ready to play. But the situation is different in the case when they have not just trained relative hearing, thanks to which they can accurately navigate in sounds of different heights, but absolute. Absolute hearing means the ability to accurately reproduce any sound and name it. In other words, such musicians constantly keep in mind and can accurately name a sound of any height. A wonderful and very rare gift, and I was always glad that I was endowed with it. Up to the moment when I realized that absolute hearing can lead to insanity during the performance of Beethoven’s violin concerto.
