Regarding Beethoven’s impressions of Mozart’s play, there are two conflicting testimonies belonging to Beethoven’s disciples. Ferdinand Rhys recalled how Beethoven complained that Mozart had never played him (from this, by the way, it follows that the classes were still there, but most likely the written ones, which consisted of a teacher checking the student's exercises). Karl Czerny referred to Beethoven’s words that Mozart’s play was rather dry and devoid of melodiousness (legato). Therefore, Beethoven still heard the game of Mozart. It remains to be assumed that neither Rhys nor Czerny sinned against the truth: Beethoven could hear him, but not during the lesson. In April 1787, Mozart did not give public concerts, but could take part in playing music in some aristocratic salon.
