Performances at Eagle's Nest, concerts at schools, tours hosted by Covington, and weekly appearances at Louisiana Hayride — Elvis no longer had time to work at Crown Electric. Tippers showed understanding by regularly giving him time off, but there were six hours from Shreveport to Memphis, and the first weeks exhausted him so much that he decided to leave work on November 12th. It was easy to make this decision, because his income from musical activity grew rapidly, although it was too early to talk about prosperity. A lot of money had to be spent on a hotel and gasoline, concerts were paid irregularly, and the fees paid by Hayride were purely symbolic. However, in aggregate, all these incomes significantly covered his salary.
