He described her as “a song about unrequited love” and wanted her to be his main hit, for which he will be remembered, just as Eric Clapton is associated with “Layla”. Finally, after many years of refinement, “November Rain” appeared on “Illusion I” - like an overripe soap opera, in which cheap synthesizer tunes flow into deafening guitar chorales, and a pompous choir sings about romantic hope and rebelliousness to the vicissitudes of love. This sweet (but hopelessly sentimental) ballad gave rise to many questions, because it could not boast of due weight.
