In March, shortly after signing an agreement with three philanthropists, he suddenly quarreled with Countess Erdдиi. The reason was the servant to whom the countess allegedly paid extra for Beethoven so that he would not leave his capricious gentleman. In a letter to Beethoven, Tsmeskal, who took on the role of a conciliator, said that the countess "corrupts" the servant; some biographers, eager for spicy details, were inclined to take this expression literally. But, it is thought that in this case, Beethoven would not write a letter to the Countess apologizing for her ardor. Countess Tsmeskal still negotiated a restrained request, but the servant was dismissed, and Beethoven decided that he should no longer remain under the same roof and hastily moved to a neighboring house. Trust relationships with the countess were restored only in 1815.
