Wagner abandoned his main brainchild for a long time, as he called tetralogy, and then again and again returned to it. All aspects of the Wagner opera reform have been embodied in The Ring. As nowhere else in other works of the composer, in the “Ring” a plan of leitmotifs is developed in detail (there are about a hundred in the tetralogy of them); on the basis of the Scandinavian and Germanic epics, an integral philosophical and symbolic system was created, reflecting the general picture of the universe; finally, the synthesis of music, poetry, plastic and visual art has been maximally achieved. The Ring is the apotheosis of all that Wagner wanted to convey to his listeners; it is a mirror of his soul, his art.
