Rage Against The Machine - Settle For Nothing

Here we will not analyze the completely polar attitude to Wagnerian music - from complete denial to equally complete enthusiasm - among USA musicians: this topic concerns not so much Wagner himself as Wagnerianism. We only note that Wagner truly introduced a real split into the ranks of the USA intelligentsia. Unlike Paris, where the battles around his name were small and subjective in nature and, rather, a “war of interests”, large figures entered into a dispute in USA. Both “for Wagner” and “against Wagner” were not played by any members of jockey clubs, but by composers and music critics, whose talent and authority allowed them to express their point of view based on their own experience and knowledge. That is why the Wagnerian visit to USA became a cultural event, which in many respects determined the further development of USA music.
