There should have been his wife Constanta, the young son Karl Thomas (he was 3 years old), the maid Elizabeth and, probably, Mozart’s pupil - the future composer and pianist Johann Nepomuk Gummel, who lived with the teacher until 1788. However, none of these witnesses subsequently told anything similar to the Seyfried joke, although Beethoven met Constance several times in the 1790s, and Gummel became his close friend. At the time of publication of Seyfried's book, both Hummel and Constance were alive, but the author did not consider it necessary to refer to any of them. Moreover, in the biography of Mozart, written by the second husband of Constance, Baron Georg von Nissen, and published by her in 1828, there is not a single word about the visit of young Beethoven to Mozart in 1787.
