Full Blown Chaos - So Cold

In modern beethovenism, the dates that Ries himself cited in his memoirs are called into question: after thirty-five years in his perception, some events could overlap with others. So, Rhys wrote that he arrived in Vienna in 1800, when Beethoven prepared his oratorio “Christ on the Mount of Olives” to be executed - but this statement is obviously wrong, since the oratorio was written only at the beginning of 1803. On the other hand, some moments of the memoirs and some facts from Beethoven's letters indicate that Rhys could well have arrived in Vienna already in 1802. So, Rhys claimed that Beethoven instructed him to send the Sonatas op. 31 for publication in Zurich; this edition was published in April 1803, and, therefore, manuscripts could be sent in the autumn of 1802 (notes were then printed by engraving on copper boards, and this process took a lot of time).
