April 1987 The most fashionable club in Los Angeles, if not the world, is Scream: a string of theme rooms in the lobby of the old Embassy Hotel on 607 Park Street in the city center. A year ago, the club occupied one small room and worked on Mondays in the evening, collecting fifty hipsters on successful days. Now it opens at 11 p.m. on weekends and seats up to 1,200 people, with a thousand more waiting to enter outside on Grand Avenue. With an admission fee of ten dollars, at least three local bands often play here in one evening: Faster Pussycat, Jane's Addiction, Jet Boy, LA Guns. DJ Mio Vukovich twists sixties-seventies hard rock records at ultimate volume: Sweet, Slade, T. Rex, Aerosmith, Free, Steppenwolf. Often on the dance floor "Scream" The Kinks sound. Sometimes they play retro rock bands Sisters of Mercy and The Cult.
