The two most recent documents, cited below, could refer not to the fall of 1807, but to a later time - perhaps to the New Year or the first New Year's days, when it was customary in Vienna to pay attention to friends even in writing. From these letters it is clear that Josephine for a long time did not see Beethoven, but considered it necessary to assure him of her friendship. In the complete collection of Beethoven's correspondence, published in 1996-1998 by Sieghard Brandenburg under the auspices of the Bonn House of Beethoven, these final letters date from the autumn of 1809. However, this dating does not look convincing: in the fall of 1809, Josephine was pregnant by her new admirer, Baron Christoph von Stackelberg, whom she married in February 1810. Trying in these circumstances to re-establish relations with Beethoven would probably beinappropriate from any point of view.
