Other interested companies were on the short list of American pop artists. Decca, MGM, Mercury and Capital announced themselves, but the most serious proposal came from Columbia. The most influential person in the company was Mitch Miller, the art director and conductor of the orchestra, whose sweet and faceless music was a thousand miles away from the music of Elvis. Although Miller belonged to the old school, he was an experienced professional who was well aware of the struggle the old school entered with a new wave. It is significant that the last record of the Mitch Miller’s orchestra - “Texas Yellow Rose” - appears on all the summer sales lists of 1955, fighting for first place in the pop charts with “(We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock ”- by the anthem of the emerging rock and roll performed by Bill Haley,made popular by the movie Jungle at the Blackboard.
