In the winter and spring of 1814, newspapers were full of news not only about battles, but also about the victories of the allied forces over what remained of the great army of Napoleon. The war was drawing to a close; it was clear to everyone, and everyone was looking forward to the imminent onset of almost the "golden age" - a peaceful, happy, abundant life. About such images could be imagined by the first listeners of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, which the audience liked more and more from time to time. True, an encore was usually demanded to be performed in the second part, Allegretto, which resembled a mournful song, and a mourning march, but was distinguished by its captivating melody and bewitching rhythm of the measured procession. Everyone was unanimous in their enthusiastic assessment of this symphony. It sounded on December 8 and 12, 1813, on January 2 and February 27, 1814,and then again on November 29, 1814 in the presence of all the European monarchs who had gathered at the Vienna Congress.
