This wanted to prove the Dutch journalist Dirk Wellenga, tracing his life all the way to Breda in the north of Brabant, where Parker was born on June 26, 1909 under the name of Andreas van Keyck. The fifth child of eleven, of whom two died in infancy, he was the son of a former military man who became a groom in a city cab office. A troubled child, prone, like Elvis, to acute bouts of somnambulism, Parker van Keyck inherited from his maternal ancestors peddling trinkets at fairs and markets in Flanders, a vagrancy passion reinforced by an all-consuming passion for the world of fair booths and traveling circuses. This double penchant for commerce and entertainment showed up very early, his family retained the memory of the day when, taking advantage of his father’s absence,he staged a dressage demonstration in his father’s stables, collecting fees from the surrounding boys.
