Many viewers remember this gigantic Last Night of the Proms live showroom, when thousands of people crowded in the stalls sang “Right, Britain” loudly and waved flags. But this rarely happens in a magnificent building with a huge dome; there are also completely “normal” concerts, although this hall, which seats more than 5,000 visitors, significantly exceeds the size of a regular concert hall. When I first stood on the stage of a building opened in 1871 and named after Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, I was afraid that I would not be heard with my violin in the back rows. But for such a large room, the acoustics were surprisingly good. For concerts preceding Last Night, the chairs are removed from the stalls, and the audience stands at the very ramp, almost touching the musicians.Not every day you experience a rare feeling that you can reach the violinist with your hand.
