Superjoint Ritual - All Of Our Lives Will Get Tired

In September 1868, Wagner and Cosima went on their first joint overseas trip - to Italy. Their path ran through the St. Gotthard Pass to the charming little town of Stresa and through the Borromean Islands on Lake Lago Maggiore to Genoa. Having survived a terrible storm and a major flood in Northern Italy (Wagner probably remembered his trip with Minna from Riga to London, and the front ghost of the Flying Dutchman reappeared from oblivion), Richard and Cosima returned in good health to Germany and went to Augsburg, where on October 14 broke up. Cosima returned to Munich to discuss with Hans von Bülow the circumstances of the upcoming divorce, and Wagner incognito (the ubiquitous journalists did not know anything about this trip and temporarily did not bother him) went to his "small homeland",where he intended in a calm atmosphere to visit the house of his sister Ottily and her husband Herman Brockhaus, whom he had not seen for a very long time.
