The modern official name of the Paris Opera is the National Academy of Music and Dance (Académie Nationale de musique et danse). Initially (since 1671) it was called the Royal Academy of Music (Académie Royale de Musique); this name was official at the time of Liszt, although it was most often used unofficially - the Paris Opera. In USA-language literature, the “main theater of France” is better known as the Grand Opera (Grand Opera), although in France itself this name was practically not used. During the XVIII-XIX centuries, the Paris Opera has repeatedly changed not only the name, but also the location. At the time of Liszt, performances took place in the Salle le Peletier. In 1875, the theater moved to a building designed by the architect Charles Garnier (Garnier; 1825–1898), which it currently houses.In 1989, in connection with the opening of the second theater stage of the Paris National Opera, the theater building was officially renamed Opera Garnier.
