Apocalyptica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

In the relationship of the parents, not everything was smooth and safe. Mother suffered from bouts of depression. Her condition was so grave that she had to be sent to a sanatorium, although not for long. According to Richard’s recollections, she was a soft woman with a quiet voice, possessing “poetic inclinations”, so impressive that any contact with an artistic phenomenon made her unbalanced. She could not read much. After an evening at the theater or at a concert, she suffered from insomnia. She felt best in the garden of her brother, Uncle Georg, where she spent time with needlework. Although she came from a cultural, music-loving family, intellectually she was no match for her husband. In a photograph taken in old age, we see a sad, humble-looking woman with pursed lips,a typical German housewife, unattractive, unfashionable, overweight, a woman, apparently deprived of any female vanity.
