Exhausted Sigmund seeks refuge from a hurricane in Hunding's hut. Siglinda hospitably meets the young man, offering him water and honey. Siglinda, having lulled Hunding with a sleepy potion, tells Sigmund about a sword stuck in the trunk of an ash tree. Sigmund remembered that once his father promised to give him an invincible sword.
